| How can I help my son lose weight? | |
Tuesday, April 01, 2008 :: 0 Comments :: | Concerned Parent: Hello. My son is 10 and 1/2 years old, 4 foot, 4 inches tall and weighs 99 lbs. He seems to continually put on weight in spite of some light activity such as basketball and lacrosse. We try to keep snacks in the house to a minimum and use only the 100 calorie bags when snacks are needed. He does buy lunch at school but I guess I don''t really know what he is eating. He has a peanut allergy and recently had a bad case of excema. His appetite never seems to be satisfied. My husband, daughter and I all are in good shape and exercise regularly but other than forcing him on the treadmill....what can i do? | | Read

| How can I help diversify a child's eating habits? | |
Tuesday, November 13, 2007 :: 0 Comments :: | Concerned Reader: I know a kid who is 3 1/2 years old and only eats chicken nuggets. Is this bad? Can he get diabetes because he does not eat almost anything else? The doctor said that he will start eating someday but it has been 2 years already. He does not eat vegetables, only bananas and grapes but only once in a while and only small portions, not even half a banana. He likes milk in a bottle so because he does not eat a lot, he drinks milk instead. The blood test results are always good, that is why the doctor says he is okay and someday will start eating. What kind of doctor can they take him to help him with the appetite? Is there any type of classes to teach the kids how to cook and eat? Please help me!!!! Thanks for your opinion. | | Read

| How can I help my child with bad eating habits? | |
Tuesday, August 07, 2007 :: 0 Comments :: | Joe of PA asks: My 8 year old daughter is a terror when it comes to eating. She will only eat yogurt, peanut butter sandwiches, slice apples (with peanut butter), bread, chicken nuggets, french fries, grill cheese and chips. I got her eating my "special pancakes" where I add applesauce, yogurt, wheat germ, fruit juices, half a banana and an egg. As long as I add a few chocolate chips and make a castle shape all is well. When we introduce something new like green beans, she puts up a terrible fight. I have tried everything from being taking this away or rewarding her with a special prize and so far the last thing new she will eat on a consistent basis is the grill cheese. Our doctors kept telling us she would grow out of it and now are giving us grief that we haven't done a better job because she is heavy. She is outgoing and smart but has a little gut and I am worried that her diet will lead to other bad things. Any help would be greatly appreciated. | | Read
